HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team (1-0) started the spring season off with a clean sweep in a 7-0 victory over the Florida A&M Rattlers (0-1) at the Southern Miss Tennis Courts on Saturday afternoon.
The Privateers started the spring season by sweeping through all three doubles matches at 6-2 in the 1 position, 6-3 in the 2 position, and 6-4 at the 3 position. That set the tone for a singles where the Privateers breezed through to cap off a demonstrative season opening win.
Anja Luethi made her debut in the dual season for the Privateers and coasted to a 6-0, 6-2 victory at the 2 spot in the rotation over Alexis Dean. Luethi also partnered with
Anna Segarra Rius in her doubles match.
Soledad Calderon Arroyo also opened up with an easy win in singles, going for a 6-2, 6-1 decision over Symone Townsend. Further in the rotation,
Yasmine Rashad swept through her opponent, Elysia Ortiz at 6-0, 6-0.
The Privateers will close their first weekend of the dual season against Jacksonville State. The match is slated for a 2 p.m. start.
