NEW ORLEANS, La. – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team (3-2) looks to bounce back off a tough loss when they open conference play against the Abilene Christian Wildcats (2-0) on Friday. The match will begin at 11:44 a.m.
The Privateers are coming off a tough beat, falling 4-3 to Louisiana-Monroe on the road last Saturday. New Orleans won the doubles point, but the deciding match at the 6 spot in singles went to the Warhawks, which locked up the victory.
In the defeat,
Yasmine Rashad moved her record up to 4-1 in singles play on the spring. Rashad's scores have been dominant in her wins, the latest a 6-1, 6-1 decision over Beata Kull of Louisiana-Monroe. In the eight sets Rashad has taken so far, she has only dropped three games.
The doubles pairings are off to a solid start for the Privateers as well, going 9-2 combined on the year. Rashad and
Hafsa Laraibi are out to a 4-1 beginning while
Anja Luethi and
Anna Segarra Rius are out to a 3-1 start in doubles.
Abilene Christian took the first meeting between these two teams last season by a 5-2 margin. The Wildcats took the doubles point in convincing fashion and won all four of their singles matches in straight sets. The Wildcats were 18-6 last spring and lost in the annual NIT Finals to Grand Canyon.
The Wildcats have not played in two weeks since kicking off their spring schedule with wins over Trinity and Prairie View A&M on Jan. 31. Both matches were decided by a 6-1 score line. Brittney Reed has won all seven of her singles matches in all including five during the fall season.
