BOX SCOREABILENE, Texas – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team (3-3, 0-1) lost a tiebreak at the 1 position in doubles and wound up falling 4-1 to the Abilene Christian Wildcats (3-0, 1-0) on Friday afternoon.
Marta Sans and
Soledad Calderon Arroyo pushed the top Abilene Christian tandem of Kaysie Hermsdorf and Brittney Reed, but fell on the short end of a 9-8 decision. The Wildcats took the other two matches at 8-2 and 8-4, securing the doubles point.
In singles, the Privateers pushed the distance at the first two positions.
Anja Luethi fell in three sets to Hermsdorf at the 2 spot while Calderon lost in three sets against Reed. The Wildcats took the match at 4 singles to earn the victory.
New Orleans got its lone point from
Anna Segarra Rius. Segarra was pushed to a tiebreak against her opponent, Erin Walker at 3 singles but came out on top. Segarra then coasted to a 6-2 second set to finish off Walker.
The Privateers return to in-state competition when they face LSU in City Park on Wednesday, February 18. The match is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.
