BOX SCORECONWAY, Ark. – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team (8-6, 2-3) lost a narrow decision, falling 4-3 to the Central Arkansas Bears (7-1, 2-1) on Sunday afternoon at the UCA Tennis Courts. With the loss, the Privateers are 0-4 in true road matches this spring.
The day started with the Privateers' top duo of
Marta Sans and
Soledad Calderon Arroyo taking care of business, winning 8-3. However, the Privateers suffered losses on the remaining two courts including an 8-6 defeat at the 2 spot, which gave Central Arkansas the opening point of the day and set up the singles matches.
Each of the six singles matches went six sets, and the wins were split down the middle.
Anja Luethi,
Yasmine Rashad, and
Hafsa Laraibi each won their respective matches in straight sets. However, the Privateers couldn't overcome the early deficit.
In a match-up of players who were a combined 17-1 in singles coming in, Central Arkansas' Allison Murphy defeated the Privateers'
Anna Segarra Rius 7-6, 6-3 to earn one of the Bears' singles points. Central Arkansas won both matches on the weekend by 4-3 scores after they defeated Southeastern by the same margin on Saturday.
The Privateers will be back at home on Wednesday to take on a non-conference foe in Bradley. The match is slated for a 12 p.m. start.
