THE SERIES:
The New Orleans Privateers baseball team (8-12, 2-4) looks to shake off a tough mid-week loss when they start a three-game series against the Lamar Cardinals (8-12, 0-6). The series starts Friday with a first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

The Privateers went to extra innings for the third time this season on Tuesday against Southern Miss, falling 6-5 in 11 innings. New Orleans is 0-3 this year in games that go beyond the scheduled nine innings. The bullpen for the Privateers pitched 7.2 innings and allowed four hits while also issuing six walks.

Lamar took a pair of mid-week games which did not count to their conference standing against Nicholls. The Cardinals won Wednesday 9-7 in 11 innings, their first extra-inning game of the season. On Tuesday, Lamar was on the losing end of a 1-0 shutout. The Cardinals used back-to-back doubles to start the frame in their win on Wednesday.

Coach Jim Gilligan is in his 38th overall season with the Cardinals. On Feb. 13 in Lamar's season opener, Gilligan became the 19th head coach to get to 1,300 career wins as the Cardinals defeated New Mexico State 7-6. Gilligan has 1,297 of his now 1,307 victories in Beaumont.
