THE GAME:The New Orleans Privateers baseball team (5-7) heads into the mid-week with their lone contest on tap against the Sacred Heart Pioneers (0-3) out of the Northeast Conference on Tuesday at Maestri Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

The Privateers closed their weekend series on a high note, scoring five runs in the first on the way to an 8-2 win over Middle Tennessee on Sunday. New Orleans had been held silent in the run column before the win, scoring three runs in the previous four games.

Sacred Heart opened their season last weekend and was swept in a three-game set against another Southland foe in Northwestern State. The Pioneers hit just .152 as a team and scored two runs in the series. The Pioneers lost a 16-inning affair 2-1 to close the weekend.

Nick Giaquinto is in his 27
th season as head coach at Sacred Heart and is closing in on 600 wins (currently 584). The Pioneers were picked to finish second in the conference in preseason behind unanimous selection and defending champion, Bryant.

NEWS AND NOTES:CUCKOO FOR COCO:Jonathan Coco continued his solid start to the season at the plate, collecting two more hits on Sunday. Coco now has 18 hits, which leads the team and is tied for the top number in the conference along with Andrew Guillotte (McNeese State).

THE BRIDGE:Seth Laigast and
Darron McKigney have been called upon seven times each out of the pen (tied for the most in the Southland). Laigast fired 4.2 scoreless innings in three appearances last week while McKigney has allowed just one run and no extra base hits in 6.1 innings of work.

EXTRA, EXTRA:New Orleans played their first extra innings game of the season, going 12 in a loss to Middle Tennessee on Friday. The Privateers played six games that went beyond nine innings and were 1-5 in those contests.Â
