NEW ORLEANS, La. – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team (6-5, 0-2) continues a home conference string this weekend with two conference matches against the Lamar Cardinals (3-4, 0-0) on Saturday and the Sam Houston State Bearkats (0-6, 0-0) on Sunday at the University Tennis Center.
The Privateers had a three-match winning streak snapped in their last outing, falling 5-2 to Nicholls. New Orleans was short-handed as
Yasmine Rashad was unavailable for the match due to an ankle injury suffered against Louisiana-Lafayette.
Anna Segarra Rius has been on the same tear that she displayed in her freshman season. Segarra is 8-1 in singles this spring with her only loss coming to LSU's Ella Taylor. All eight of Segarra's wins have come in straight sets, with her latest coming by a 6-1, 6-2 count against Nicholls' Milou Pietersz.
Lamar enters Saturday's match having lost back-to-back matches in Birmingham. The Lady Cardinals lost a 6-1 decision against Samford and also fell 4-0 to UAB. Hanna Elfving has been solid at the back of Lamar's rotation in her appearances, going 3-1 on the spring and picking up the only point against Samford.
Sam Houston State has come up empty in the win column, and will be playing their first match in three weeks. First the Bearkats will stop in Hammond to take on Southeastern on Saturday before making the trip to the University Tennis Center. The last outing for Sam Houston State was a 5-2 loss to UTEP on Feb. 15. The Bearkats were scheduled to play Prairie View A&M a week later, but the match was canceled due to rain.
