NEW ORLEANS, La. – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team (13-9, 3-6) looks to solidify a spot in the Southland postseason tournament as they face the Incarnate Word Cardinals (2-18, 0-8) on Friday at the UIW Tennis Courts. The match is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.
As it stands after yesterday, the Privateers are currently holding the seventh spot in the standings among eligible teams after their 4-1 win over Southeastern. After Friday, New Orleans has one match left at current four seed, McNeese State on Sunday.
Hafsa Laraibi continues her dominance at the back of the Privateers' rotation. Laraibi turned in her 16
th victory of the spring with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Southeastern's Natalie Duran. 15 of Laraibi's 16 wins this season have been finished in straight sets and yesterday marked the ninth win in which Laraibi dropped two games or fewer.
Anja Luethi has started to catch fire toward the end of the season, going 7-2 in her last nine singles bouts. Luethi turned in a 6-2, 6-0 win on Wednesday and is currently 12-9 on the season. In doubles, Luethi and
Anna Segarra Rius have combined to go 11-7.
Incarnate Word enters on a seven-match losing streak which dates back to Mar. 14. In their last outing, the Cardinals were defeated in a conference dual by a 5-2 margin to Sam Houston State on Apr. 4. Both of the Cardinals' wins this season have come at home to Trinity (Texas) and Tyler JC. Rachel Sadiq leads the team in wins with seven.
