NEW ORLEANS, La. – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team (10-9, 2-6 Southland) faces a two-match non-conference stretch against two SWAC foes. The Privateers will face Jackson State on Thursday and Alcorn State on Friday. Both matches will take place at the University Tennis Center.
The Privateers are looking to shake off a pair of tough losses in conference over last weekend. New Orleans fell 4-3 to Northwestern State and 5-2 to Stephen F. Austin who entered unbeaten in conference play. The Privateers have lost four of their last six matches with all four losses coming in conference.
Five of the Privateers' six players on the roster have reached 10 victories in singles this season.
Hafsa Laraibi and
Anna Segarra Rius enter tied for the team lead with both players sporting a 13-4 mark. Laraibi has won three straight and is 8-2 in her last 10 matches.
In the match against Stephen F. Austin,
Anja Luethi was moved to the 3 spot and came up with one of the Privateers' two points against the Ladyjacks. Luethi has played five matches at #3 singles and is 3-2 in that spot this year. Last Saturday marked Luethi's first match at that spot since Feb. 27 (vs. Nicholls).
Jackson State enters competition at 5-15 on the season. The Tigers' most recent effort was a 6-0 loss to Auburn-Montgomery. The Tigers have alternated wins and losses in their last five matches with victories against Alabama State and Alabama A&M sprinkled in that stretch.
Alcorn State enters at 6-1 in conference play and with a 9-5 mark overall. The Braves have won four straight with three of those wins coming in conference. Alcorn State defeated Delta State in a non-conference bout in their last outing.
