Privateers Face Off Against Nicholls in Penultimate Series

THE SERIES:
The New Orleans Privateers baseball team (14-33, 3-21 Southland) will take part in a split series against a local foe when they face the Nicholls Colonels (29-16-1, 14-10). The series starts in Thibodaux at Didier Field with a first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m.
 
The Privateers did not have a mid-week game this week because of finals. New Orleans' last outing was a 12-5 loss on Sunday, May 3 to Abilene Christian. The Privateers conceded the first eight runs of the game before coming back to cut the deficit to three. The Wildcats hit a grand slam in the ninth inning. The Privateers have lost nine straight against Nicholls since May 2010.
 
Nicholls enters on a five-game winning streak after defeating Alabama A&M 4-3 on Wednesday night. The Colonels got a save from Stuart Holmes, his 15th of the season. Holmes leads the conference in saves and set a new school record for most saves in a season. Nicholls swept Houston Baptist in their last conference series.
 
Kyle Reese is on a 12-game hitting streak and is hitting .356. 10 of those 12 games for Reese have been multi-hit efforts and he is fourth in the conference in batting average. The Colonels also boast the best ERA in the conference by nearly a run. Nicholls pitchers have a 2.44 ERA. Second is Sam Houston who checks in with a 3.39 ERA.

NEWS AND NOTES:
CALLOWAY'S BEST HITS:
Ryan Calloway capped off a five-game week by hitting .458 (11-for-24) with four RBIs. Calloway stole his eighth base of the season on May 2. It was his first steal in 19 games. Calloway is currently eighth in the conference in hits with 61.
 
AVERAGE IT OUT:
The Privateers are currently tied for fifth in the Southland in hits coming into the weekend. New Orleans has 437 hits and racked up 64 in their five games last week. The Privateers are also hitting .272 as a team, which ranks sixth in the league.
 
GOT 'EM:
Kevin Kelleher had a big week in the strikeout department which was finished off with a career-best 13 strikeouts in 5.2 innings against Abilene Christian. Kelleher has struck out 25 batters over 15.2 innings in his last four outings and his 57 strikeouts are 13th most in the league.
