Women's Tennis Takes on Central Arkansas on Sunday

NEW ORLEANS – A 4-0 start in conference play is on the line for the University of New Orleans women's tennis team (7-1, 3-0 Southland) as they take on the Central Arkansas Sugar Bears (7-4, 2-2) on Sunday at the University Tennis Center. The match is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start.
 
The Privateers are coming off their fifth 7-0 sweep of the season, which occurred on Friday when UNO downed Incarnate Word. All singles matches finished up in straight sets and the Privateers also moved to 4-0 at home in the spring.
 
Paula Garriga Ullate and Brittany Johnson have combined to make an instant impact when called upon in doubles. The two freshmen have combined for a 4-0 mark in doubles action and were plugged into the lineup at #3 doubles during the win Friday against the Cardinals. Garriga and Johnson also have a combined mark of 3-0 in singles.
 
The last time the two teams met was in Conway on Mar. 15, 2015 when Central Arkansas edged out UNO 4-3. The Privateers earned their points all in singles from Anja Luethi, Yasmine Rashad, and Hafsa Laraibi.
 
Central Arkansas fell 4-3 to Southeastern on Saturday to drop their record to an even 2-2 in conference. The Sugar Bears are 4-2 at home and 3-2 on the road. On the season, Central Arkansas has earned conference wins against Stephen F. Austin and Northwestern State.
 
Amiru Shimoguchi has been a staple in the middle of the rotation for Central Arkansas, going 9-1 on the spring entering the weekend. Shimgouchi has played mostly at the #4 position and has had one match at the #3 spot. In doubles, QiLi Ma and Rada Manatweewat have been the most consistent pair, notching a 7-2 mark at #3 doubles.
