NEW ORLEANS – The University of New Orleans women's tennis team (14-4, 7-3 Southland) put a cap on an outstanding week with a 5-2 victory over the McNeese State Cowgirls (14-8, 7-4) on Sunday at the University Tennis Center to move themselves currently into the two-seed in the conference tournament.

The Privateers started strong by winning the doubles point.
Hafsa Laraibi and
Yasmine Rashad breezed to a 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles. The point was sealed for UNO when
Soledad Calderon Arroyo and
Anna Segarra Rius posted a 6-3 win at No. 1. The Privateers were also leading with match point at No. 2 doubles.

"We have the momentum now and we're turning things around," said Coach
Burzis Kanga. "The doubles point was big and moving into the two-seed really helps us. Like I told them all year, just believe in what you're doing and recognize you're a talented team."

In singles, the Privateers had a host of strong results starting with Segarra. Facing Klaudia Gawlik who was playing just her third conference match, Segarra held control of the match, winning 6-3, 6-3 to give the Privateers a point at the top spot.

Anja Luethi also posted a straight set victory over Julia Kral who had not lost a match previously at No. 3 (5-0). Luethi won 6-4, 6-2 to move her season record in singles to 10-4. Luethi and Segarra both picked up their 10
th win of the spring.

UNO also picked up wins at No. 5 and 6 with Laraibi and Rashad doing the honors. Laraibi outlasted Charoline Erlandsson in a first set tiebreak and dominated the second set of a 7-6, 6-1 win. Rashad held Vivien Borbely off for a 6-4, 6-4 victory.

UNO has two matches left as the schedule will change around due to a make-up conference match against Abilene Christian. All changes will be announced on Monday.
