Women's Tennis Falls to McNeese in Opening Round of SLC Tournament

BOX SCORE

NACOGDOCHES, Texas
– The University of New Orleans women's tennis team (15-6) was bounced in the first round of the Southland Tournament, falling 4-1 to the McNeese State Cowgirls (15-8) on Friday on the campus of Stephen F. Austin.

UNO started the day chasing the first point. The Cowgirls picked up a win at No. 1 doubles to begin proceedings. UNO came back with a win of their own at No. 2 when Anna Segarra Rius and Soledad Calderon Arroyo posted a 6-3 win. However, McNeese was able to take the first point when Hannah Brett and Charoline Erlandsson won a hard fought 7-5 decision.

In singles, McNeese got things rolling early. Hannah Brett and Klaudia Gawlik turned in straight set victories to put the Cowgirls on the brink of victory as they led the match 3-0 after that point. The Privateers tried to climb back into the match with Yasmine Rashad putting UNO on the board. Rashad won her match 6-4, 6-1 at No. 6 to give UNO their first point.

McNeese clinched the opening round victory in the tournament when Sarah Jurakova won her match 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3 singles. Both of the remaining singles matches went unfinished. Calderon was in the third set while Trang Dao was deep into the second set of her match.
