The University of New Orleans baseball team (18-10, 4-5 Southland) will be in search of a season sweep over an old Sun Belt foe when they take on the South Alabama Jaguars (21-7, 12-0 Sun Belt) on Wednesday evening at Stanky Field. First pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m.

UNO won the first meeting between the two teams as freshman, Bryan Warzek threw seven shutout innings to preserve his first collegiate win. The Privateers won 8-2 and five of their runs came between the seventh and eighth inning. Jay Robinson led the Privateers with three hits and four other players collected two hits.

Over the weekend, the Privateers took one of three against a Troy Trojans squad that led the Sun Belt in ERA. The Privateers won the first game 10-6 and lost the last two games 9-6 and 9-4. The rest of the Southland slate will hold some of the top teams in pitching in the Southland: the Privateers will face three of the top five pitching staffs in ERA on their remaining schedule.

"That's what we've seen is some good pitching," said Coach Blake Dean. "The Southland is proven to have quite a few good starters. We're back on our home turf this weekend so we've got to figure out how to scratch out a few wins and get this rolling again."

The Privateers have been putting the wheels in motion more of late, recording 12 stolen bases over their last four games. After posting six steals against Jackson State, UNO stole six more bases over the weekend against Troy to run their season total to 29. Aaron Palmer leads the team individually with seven.

South Alabama has been nearly unbeatable at home, posting a 14-2 mark. Their only home losses were in a series against Middle Tennessee. "They play very well," said Dean. "We played them very well here so I'm sure they'll be engaged in their ballpark and we're going to have our hands full."

The Jaguars, coached by Mark Calvi turned in another strong weekend in conference play. South Alabama swept Louisiana-Monroe and out-scored the Warhawks 36-5 over the three game series. The Jaguars are unbeaten in 12 Sun Belt contests.

South Alabama will throw right-hander, Randy Bell. The Privateers' starter is still to be announced. South Alabama has earned national attention, receiving votes in three polls. The Jaguars hit .271 as a team and have a 3.41 ERA. Drew LaBounty leads all Jaguar hitters with a .358 average. Jared Barnes leads the team in homers with four.

Wednesday offers another chance for the Jaguars to turn their fortunes around against Southland competition. South Alabama is 0-3 against the Southland, enduring losses to UNO,  Nicholls, and Southeastern.
