NEW ORLEANS – Head coach
Blake Dean continues to stockpile on the 2017 class, adding left-handed pitcher
Brandon Mitchell out of Alief Elsik High School in Houston. Mitchell becomes the fifth pitcher to sign with the Privateers and first southpaw.
The flamethrower was dominant on the rubber, punching out 88 batters in 52.2 innings for Elsik. The LHP boasted a 1.33 ERA.
"Brandon is one of the best lefties in the state of Texas," said Dean. "His fastball can hit 94 and he throws a good 12/6 curve. His changeup is a great No. 3 and his command for all three allows him to throw any pitch at any time. He will compete to be our Friday night starter as a freshman."
Mitchell stands 6-2 at 196 lbs. He played summer ball for Diaz Baseball.
