DAY ONE RECAP | FINAL RESULTS (GOLFSTAT) | FINAL RESULTS
PATTERSON, LOUISIANA - Homero de Toledo shot the low individual round of the day and the University of New Orleans golf team carded the low team-round during on the final day of the Atchafalaya Intercollegiate Tourney, Tuesday, in Patterson, Louisiana.
The senior from Pinhais, Brazil shot a 2-under-par 70 at The Atchafalaya at Idlewild Course. The Privateers fashioned the lowest team total of the day, 6-over par 294, good enough for a fourth place finish in the field of ten teams. New Orleans finished 37-over for the tournament, 20 strokes behind tournament winner UT-Rio Grande Valley.
"The kids played well in some adverse conditions because it was pretty windy," said golf coach
Jeff Lorio. We were able to grind it out and put together some numbers today."
Homero de Toledo had company at the top as
Max Hellstrom, a sophomore from Stockholm, Sweden, shot a 1-under par 71 during the third and final round.
Lorio was pleased because the Privateers defeated some Southland Conference rivals, finishing ahead of Houston Baptist, Central Arkansas and Incarnate Word.
"It's the first time we've beaten them so that's a step in the right direction. It proves we can compete with other teams in our conference," said Lorio. Hopefully the team will get some confidence and we can build on that going forward."
Up next for New Orleans, the Colin Montgomerie Invitational in Spring, Texas, Feb. 26-27.
