Regular Season Wraps Up with Visit from Northwestern State

NEW ORLEANS – Looking to secure its spot in the Southland Conference Tournament next week, the University of New Orleans (25-28, 13-14 Southland) welcomes Northwestern State (31-21, 16-11 Southland) to Maestri Field Thursday and Friday at 6:30 p.m., and Saturday at 2 p.m. Saturday is Senior Day at the ballpark and nine UNO student-athletes will be honored prior to first pitch.
 
The Privateers are currently tied with UIW (own tiebreaker) in the seventh spot in the standings.

ABOUT NEW ORLEANS
Southland Conference Hitter of the Week Owen Magee leads the offense with a .345 batting average, seven home runs, 14 doubles and 39 RBI. The senior third baseman also legged out four triples this season. Beau Bratton extended his reached base safely streak to 24 games after going 2-4 in Tuesday's win over No. 18 Southern Miss and is now hitting .310 on the season with two long balls, four triples (T-team lead), 11 doubles, 35 runs scored and 37 RBI (second on team).  
 
The pair of John Barr (5-3) and Reeves Martin (seven saves) have solidified the backend of the bullpen, holding opponents to a .227 batting average with 106 total punchouts. Brayson Smith has continued his strong second half to the season and enters Thursday's contest with a 4.19 ERA. The right-hander is expected to get the nod in the series opener. Bryan Warzek is projected to the start on Friday and his 110 strikeouts lead the Southland Conference. He is 3-2 with a 2.81 ERA.
 
The pitching staff has compiled 499 total strikeouts this season, just 12 away from tying the program single season mark, set in 2002.
 
ABOUT NORTHWESTERN STATE
Kwan Adkins leads the Demons with a .350 batting average, followed by David Fry's .348 clip with 11 home runs, 25 doubles and league-leading 51 RBI.

LAST TIME THEY MET
The last time these two teams met, head coach Blake Dean's squad swept NSU in Natchitoches, 12-2, and 6-3. Jay Robinson went 5-10 in the series with two RBI and five runs scored. Christopher DeMayo earned the save in the series finale.
