Playoff Spot in Sight as Baseball Travels to HBU

HOUSTON – The Space City is the site for a three-game series between the University of New Orleans (19-27, 8-13 Southland) and Houston Baptist University (21-24, 13-8 Southland) at Husky Field. The pivotal series pits the ninth-place Privateers against the third-place (tied) Huskies.
 
Please note of a change in the schedule due to inclement weather in the Houston area the teams will play a doubleheader Friday, beginning at 11 a.m. The series finale is tentatively scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday.

ABOUT NEW ORLEANS
Sophomore catcher Beau Bratton currently owns the fourth longest reached base safely streak in the Southland at 17 games. Owen Magee leads the Blue and Silver offense with a .328 batting average with five home runs, three triples, 13 doubles, 27 runs scored and 29 runs batted in.
 
The Privateer pitching staff has 442 punchouts on the season and is closing in on the single-season record of 504 with 10 regular season games to play. Bryan Warzek leads the staff in that category with 97 (first in SLC) and will get the ball on Saturday. John Barr continues his dominance out of the 'pen, holding opponents to a .220 batting average in 48.2 innings of work.
  
ABOUT HOUSTON BAPTIST
Senior outfielder Matt Heck leads the team in batting average (.364), home runs (nine), RBI (41), triples (four), slugging percentage (.641) and on-base percentage (.418). Spencer Halloran follows with a .326 batting average with eight long balls, 14 doubles, 35 runs scored, and 33 ribbies.

The Privateers won the season series last year with 3-1 and 8-3 victories at Maestri Field. Warzek earned the win in the series clinching game going 8.0 innings, giving up five hits, three runs (one earned) with seven strikeouts. Jay Robinson finished 3-9 in the series with a run batted in.
