The New Orleans Privateers catchers position was fully anchored by
Beau Bratton who started all 61 games in 2018. The second team all-conference selection this year will be joined by three new backstops for the upcoming 2019 season.
Â
Bratton hit .315 in his first season with the Privateers. He led the team in triples (five) and co-led the team in RBI (41). He also scored 37 runs and corralled 12 doubles while earning a second team selection from the Southland Conference.
Â
Freshmen,
Dallen Leach and
Jorge Tejeda along with junior transfer,
Robert Fabelo join the squad to create more depth at the position.
Â
"We finally went out and added quite a few catchers," said Coach
Blake Dean. "Beau did a great job holding up for us and without him we wouldn't have been able to do much. We've got some good guys around Beau as well that can give him a little bit of a breather."
Â
Leach attended Lincoln High School in Tallahassee where he hit .371 with 10 doubles last year. He helped lead Lincoln to a state title in 2017 and was a two-time All Big Bend selection. Tejeda also comes from the Sunshine State. He was a third-team all-area selection in 2018 while hitting .333.
Â
"We've got two freshmen in Leach and Tejeda who are adjusting to the speed of the college game but they work really hard," said Dean. "Tejeda has a bazooka behind the plate and he's a great receiving catcher as well. Dallen is more of an offensive catcher. He's like some of our other guys we've had."
Â
Fabelo transferred in from Miami-Dade College. The junior was an all-district selection twice and was named to the All-Star Team in his senior season at Florida Christian High School. At Miami-Dade, Fabelo played in 37 games last season.
Â
Dean stated about Fabelo, "With Robert, he brings maturity and a left-handed bat. He is a great receiver as well who can step in at a moment's notice as well."
