Privateers Open Series Against Southland Leader, Lamar on Friday

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers will begin week eight of Southland play on Friday night as they open a three-game set at home against the Lamar Cardinals. First pitch for the series opener is slated for 6:30 p.m.

ROTATION
FRIDAY-UNO: LHP Bryson Goff vs. LU: RHP Chris Olivier
SATURDAY-UNO: LHP Riley Marcotte vs. LU: LHP Jarret Williams
SUNDAY-UNO: RHP Reid Leonard vs. LU: TBA

The Privateers were defeated 10-7 by LSU on Tuesday night in Baton Rouge. Dylan Biddick homered and drove in five runs while Kruise Newman added his 10th homer of the year, but the Tigers scored seven runs in the fifth inning to grab the lead for good.

Newman becomes the third Privateer since 2023 to hit double-digit homers in his debut season with New Orleans, joining Tristan Moore ('23) and Victor Castillo ('24). Newman is tied for fifth in the conference in home runs entering the weekend.

Lane Alack has inherited the most baserunners of anyone on the pitching staff as he has stranded 10 of 13 this season. He also has the lowest batting average on the staff of anyone with at least 75 batters faced this season at .231. Nine of his 14 appearances have gone at least 2.0 innings.

The Privateers are on the outsdie looking in at the top eight in the Southland standings, which will make the conference tournament. New Orleans is three games back of eighth with three weekends to go. Their remaining opponents are Lamar (1st), Nicholls (4th) and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (10th).

Adrian Dominguez has hit .353 over his last six games for the Privateers. He also has a pair of pinch hits in that span against Illinois and HCU. Dominguez has eight RBI in that stretch after having seven in his first 72 at-bats of the season.

ABOUT THE OPPONENT
Lamar took over the conference lead last weekend after they swept Northwestern State. The Cardinals are a game up on Southeastern for the top spot with three weeks remaining. Chris Olivier has won Southland Pitcher of the Week four times and he is top two in the conference in innings, ERA, strikeouts, ERA and opponent batting average.
