NEW ORLEANS – The 2020 New Orleans Privateers baseball schedule has been released and includes 31 home games along with a challenging non-conference slate. The season will be the fifth under head coach
Blake Dean and the 50
th in program history.
FEBRUARY
The season begins on Valentine's Day with the Andre Dawson Classic. New Orleans will begin their opening weekend against Grambling. The second day will feature a nationally televised game on MLB Network at Wesley Barrow Stadium against Southern. The first weekend finishes back at Maestri Field vs. Prairie View.
The rest of the month features a road series against Arkansas State, the first game of the Pelican Cup at Tulane, the first of two meetings against Southern Miss and South Alabama, and a home series against 2019 NCAA Regional participant, UConn. The series against the Huskies will represent the Allstate Sugar Bowl Baseball Classic.
MARCH
After a mid-week meeting against Alcorn State, conference play begins on March 6 with a home series against Nicholls. Three of the first four conference series are at Maestri Field with the Privateers also hosting Northwestern State and UIW.
New Orleans' only road weekend of the month is at Sam Houston State. The Privateers also face Southern, South Alabama, and Jackson State in mid-week battles.
APRIL
The Privateers begin the month with four of their first five games on the road. That includes a series against Southeastern. Coach Dean's bunch will also play McNeese (home) and Lamar (road) during the penultimate month.
New Orleans will also host VCU from April 17-19. The Rams finished 2019 with a 39-19 record. Also within the month are the second and third games of the Pelican Cup against Tulane. The last meeting will take place April 21 at Tulane.
MAY
Of the 10 games in May, seven will be on the road. The Privateers will face Abilene Christian and HBU in road series. The ACU series will be the final of the regular season. New Orleans will also travel to LSU.
The lone home games will be a weekend series against Stephen F. Austin from May 8-10.
