ABOUT NEW ORLEANS
- Collin Morrill is on a 12-game hitting streak spanning back to 2018. Morrill is four games from entering the top 10 in the program's longest hitting streaks. Morrill on the season is hitting .370 with a homer, three doubles, four RBI, and four runs scored.
- Reeves Martin has already racked up three saves this season, bringing his career total to 15, second most in program history. Martin was lights out in the pen. Last year as a sophomore, Martin recorded nine saves. Martin had 55 strikeouts in 47.1 innings pitched.
ABOUT YALE
- The Bulldogs will either be very rested or very rusty when heading to the Big Easy. Yale played a four-game series opening weekend at New Mexico State and went 1-3. The Bulldogs have not had a scheduled game since Feb. 17.
- Yale will also tour the Sunshine State for the majority of March before heading back up north. After the series with New Orleans, the Bulldogs will travel to Florida for a weekend series (Mar. 8-10), UCF for a two-game midweek series (Mar. 12-13) and Stetson for a weekend set (Mar. 15-17). The first home game for Yale will be on Mar. 20 against Quinnipiac.
- The name John Stuper has gained legendary status in New Haven, Connecticut. Coach Stuper is in his 27th season with the program and has collected 515 wins to date. He earned the most wins in program history in 2009 and continues to pile onto that record. His 500th win came last season against Fairfield.
- The Bulldogs have won back-to-back regular season Ivy League titles. In 2017, the Bulldogs made their most recent appearance in the NCAA tournament and made the regional final where they lost to Oregon State. Last season, Yale was knocked out in the postseason tournament championship against Columbia.
- Scott Politz has a decorated collegiate career as he pitches in his final season with the Bulldogs. The Austin, Texas native has been First Team All-Ivy League three years running. He has 23 career wins to date and put forth a strong start in the opening weekend. Politz threw 7.2 innings and did not allow an earned run. (7.2 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 2 K)
- Simon Whiteman has provided the speed for the Bulldogs. After leading the team in stolen bases in 2018 with nine, Whiteman is on an early pace to well outperform that number. He had four steals in the four-game set against New Mexico State. Whiteman has 41 career stolen bases entering the weekend including 17 in his freshman year.
- Yale is the fourth opponent the Privateers will play for the first time, but New Orleans has done well historically against the Ivy League sporting a 5-0 record (2-0 vs. Brown, 2-0 vs. Cornell, and 1-0 vs. Harvard).
- In program history, 38 players have been drafted from Yale. The highest ever draft pick was Ron Darling in the first round by the Texas Rangers (1981). Two other Bulldogs have made the Majors since: Craig Breslow and Ryan Lavarnway. Also, former Chicago Bears and Buffalo Bills head coach, Dick Jauron was drafted by St. Louis in 1973. In the same year, he was selected in the fourth round of the NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions.
- The Yale roster is wide ranging in hometowns. 16 different states and two countries outside of the U.S. (Japan, Canada) are represented on the 2019 Bulldogs.
