LAFAYETTE, La. – The University of New Orleans (9-5) visits the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (6-9) in the lone meeting between the two programs Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park.
Last season, the Ragin' Cajuns defeated the Privateers 8-6 at Russo Park. In the game,
Pearce Howard went 2-for-5 with two RBI from the leadoff spot and
Beau Bratton added a run.

CENTURY MARK AWAITS
The next win will be No. 100 for head coach
Blake Dean. In his fourth year as skipper on the Lakefront, Dean is 99-91-1 with three consecutive trips to the Southland Conference Tournament. Dean has five victories against nationally-ranked programs, including the 2-1 win over No. 23 Southern Miss earlier this season.

• Three Privateer hitters have more walks than strikeouts through the first four weeks;

Pearce Howard was named the first Southland Hitter of the Week of the 2019 season on Feb. 19 after going 6-for-10 with four RBI against Michigan St.
• The Privateers' next two weekend series will be against the defending Southland Tournament Champion Northwestern (Northwestern State) and regular season champion (Sam Houston State).

Gaige Howard drew four walks in the series finale. The junior outfielder fell one free pass shy of tying the single game program record which was achieved twice.
• The 2018 Privateer pitching staff collectively smashed the program single season record for strikeouts. UNO pitchers recorded 580 Ks. The previous record was 511.

- Holstein will get his second consecutive midweek start… the junior went two innings in the win against Jackson State last Wednesday… he has not allowed a run in his last three outings, which spanned 7.0 innings.
GAIGEING THE COMPETITION
Gaige Howard has made the most of his time in the starting lineup since getting his first starting call of the year on Feb. 23 against Rutgers. Howard is 12-for-33 at the plate with three doubles. He has also drawn 10 walks to just four strikeouts. His on-base percentage is currently sitting at .523.
CLOSING TIME
Reeves Martin has already racked up four saves this season, bringing his career total to 16, second most in program history. He is currently two saves behind
Ryan O'Shea. Last year as a sophomore, Martin recorded nine saves. Martin had 55 strikeouts in 47.1 innings pitched.
ABOUT NEW ORLEANS
- New Orleans is 8-3 in nonconference play this season.

Gaige Howard leads the club with a .364 batting average and 10 walks. His .524 on-base percentage ranks second in the league.

Collin Morrill is batting .347 with four doubles and 10 RBI, both tied for team-highs.

- Oset is 2-0 with a 0.66 ERA and his 16 strikeouts lead the club. The right-hander is limiting opponents to a .128 batting average and has allowed just one run in 13.2 innings.
- Martin (2-0, 1.35 ERA) is 4-for-4 on save chances this season, and the right-hander has nine punchouts in 6.2 frames.

ABOUT LOUISIANA
- Tony Robichaux has taken the Cajuns program to new heights in his now 25-year tenure. He is the eighth-winningest active head coach. He has guided Louisiana to 12 NCAA Regionals, four Super Regionals, and 1 College World Series (2000).
- The Cajuns have already gone 2-3 versus Southland schools this season.
- Entering the week, Louisiana is second in the Sun Belt in stolen bases with 33. Only Coastal Carolina has more steals this year among Sun Belt teams. Individually, Hayden Cantrelle has eight steals in nine attempts. Hunter Kasuls is 6-for-7 in stolen base attempts.

Orynn Veillon will face off against the school he spent his previous two seasons. Veillon transferred back to Lafayette for his senior year after spending two seasons (2017-18) with the Privateers. Veillon hit 15 home runs with New Orleans in 2017, the ninth highest single season total in program history. This year with the Cajuns, Veillon is hitting .250 with three homers and eight RBI. He had four of those RBI in one game against McNeese.
- Handsome Monica leads the team with a .548 slugging percentage. Monica has four doubles and four homers in 62 at-bats. His .290 batting average ranks third on the team. Monica homered twice in his first game of the season (vs. Sam Houston State).
