NEW ORLEANS – The University of New Orleans (12-8, 2-4 Southland) returns to Maestri Field this weekend to host #RV Sam Houston State University (13-5, 5-1 Southland). First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Friday, while Saturday and Sunday are slated for a 2 p.m. and 1 p.m. start, respectively.
New Orleans split its series with the University of South Alabama, defeating the Jaguars in New Orleans Tuesday 7-5.

The Privateers will hand the ball to freshman southpaw
Brandon Mitchell on Friday. The Houston native is 1-0 this season with a 5.09 ERA but enters the weekend with back-to-back quality starts. In 6.0 innings at Nicholls (March 8), the left-hander struck out three and allowed just two runs while tossing 102 pitches. The following week, Mitchell went a season-high 7.0 frames with five strikeouts at Northwestern State (March 15). Friday is expected to be his fourth start of the season and seventh appearance.
Chris Turpin has been strong through five starts for UNO, posting a 3-0 mark with a 2.05 ERA. In 30.2 innings, the right-hander has 19 strikeouts and is limiting opponents to a .225 batting average.
In his last start at Northwestern State, Turpin earning a victory with eight punchouts in 7.0 innings.
BULLPEN
Mathew Oset (3-1) has been lights out of the 'pen with 18 strikeouts in 17.2 innings. The right-hander posted a 1.02 ERA in 11 games.
Reeves Martin tied the programs saves record with 18 career stops. This season, the right-hander is 2-0 with a 0.84 ERA and 16 strikeouts in 10.2 frames. Martin has allowed just five hits this season.
OFFENSIVE
Tresten Kennard has reached base safely in 13 consecutive games. The junior is batting .288 with 10 RBI.
Collin Morrill paces the offense with a .338 batting average and 13 runs batted in.
Gaige Howard is hitting .327 with five doubles and
Pearce Howard has eight doubles and a .302 batting average in 17 games.
Wade Raburn made his return Wednesday and is hitting .294.
ABOUT THE BEARKATS
Hayden Wesneski is 3-0 with a 3.12 ERA with 42 strikeouts. Riley Gossett is expected to make his first start of the season after appearing in 10 games in relief, collecting two saves. Seth Ballew is scheduled for the Sunday start.
