Homestand Concludes with Visit from Southern Tuesday

NEW ORLEANS – The University of New Orleans (13-10) steps away from Southland Conference play to host Southern University (14-9) Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Maestri Field.
 
PROMOTIONS
Tuesday will be "Two-for-Tuesday" at Maestri Field. Fans will be able to purchase two hot dogs and two drinks for the price of one. Fans can also purchase two silver grandstand tickets for the price of one.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES
The Privateers are 31-17 all-time versus the Jaguars and defeated Southern three times last season, including two victories at home, to extend the streak to eight consecutive wins. This year, the clubs meet tomorrow, April 10 in Baton Rouge and back at Maestri Field May 7.
 
STARTING PITCHER
New Orleans is expected to start right-hander Steven Swift. Swift is 0-1 with a 3.86 ERA with seven strikeouts in 7.0 innings. Opponents are hitting just .207 versus the right-hander in two starts.
 
Southern has yet to announce its starter.
 
HISTORY AWAITS
With his next save, Reeves Martin will be in sole possession of the top spot of the UNO record book with 19 career saves. This season, the right-hander is 3-0 with a 0.71 ERA and a perfect 6-of-6 in save opportunities. Martin has 20 punchouts in 12.1 innings and hasn't allowed a run since the second game of the regular season (Michigan State).
 
AT HOME
The Privateers are 8-5 at Maestri Field this season.
 
MID-WEEKS
New Orleans is 4-1 in mid-week games this season with wins over the University of Southern Mississippi, the University of South Alabama, Jackson State University and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
 
TUESDAYS ARE FOR THE WINNERS
UNO is 3-0 on Tuesday's this season after last week's 7-5 victory over USA at home.
 
AT THE PLATE
Coming off a weekend in which he blasted a walk-off home run, Collin Morrill paces the squad with a .352 batting average, three home runs and 15 RBI. Gaige Howard is hitting .318 and his .446 on-base percentage ranks 11th in the Southland. Luther Woullard (.313, 14 RBI) and Pearce Howard (nine doubles) round out the leaders for UNO.
 
DEFENSE
Jorge Tejeda showed off Saturday with two lasers to gun out two Sam Houston State University Bearkats. UNO has turned 21 double plays, tied for third most in the league.
 
ABOUT SOUTHERN
Hunter David was named the SWAC's Hitter of the Week after batting .750 with 11 RBI in the three-game sweep of Grambling State University. He is hitting .443 this season, tops in the SWAC. As a team, Southern is hitting .301, also the league best. Javeyan Williams follows with a .414 batting average, two triples and 17 RBI.
 
On the mound, Connor Whalen is 2-0 with seven saves and the closer has now allowed a run in 11.2 frames.
