NEW ORLEANS – The University of New Orleans (14-13) returns to Maestri Field for five games this week, beginning with the defense of the Pelican Cup Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. The Privateers host Tulane University (19-9) tomorrow and Jackson State University (13-18) Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

Fans can also take photos with the Pelican Cup. The Privateers and Green Wave face off three times in 2019 with the winner of the series receiving the Pelican Cup. A Most Outstanding Player will be awarded an MVP ball.
PITCHING PROBABLES
Bailey Holstein (1-1) takes on right-hander Krishna Raj (2-0) tomorrow. Wednesday's starters have not been announced.
Holstein tossed 1.1 innings in Sunday's series finale at UIW. Tuesday is expected to be his fourth starting nod of the season.
FIRST PITCH

Gaige Howard is on an active 11-game hitting streak heading into the week. Against UIW, Howard went 9-for-13 at the plate. Howard is hitting .386 in 23 games played.
• With the 11-inning win on 3/23, the Privateers are 13-5-1 in extra inning games since 2016.

Collin Morrill became the first Privateer since 2008 (Ryan Eden) to lead off a game with a home run when he did it on 3/15 at Northwestern State.
• Head coach
Blake Dean secured his 100th win at New Orleans against the Ragin' Cajuns on 3/2. Five of those wins have come against nationally ranked schools.
• Eight Privateers have at least 10 RBI this season.
Pearce Howard leads the way individually with 17 RBI.

Mathew Oset has not issued a walk in his last four appearances. The senior has 26 strikeouts to 8 walks in his 23.2 innings of work this season.
• The Privateers are 8-2 this season when they collect more hits than an opponent.

Darren Willis hit a two-run homer on 3/29 at UIW. It was the first of his collegiate career.
DOUBLE VISION
New Orleans has cracked 54 doubles this season, third most in the Southland and 43rd in the nation entering this week. Individually,
Pearce Howard is in a five-way tie for the most doubles among any Southland hitter with 10.
ONE TWO THREE STRIKES YOU'RE OUT
Martin along with
Mathew Oset and
John Barr have piled up the strikeouts in bunches. The trio has combined for 80 Ks over 62.1 innings which translates to 11.6 strikeouts per nine.
THE CUP IS IN THE BUILDING
New Orleans and Tulane renewed the Pelican Cup in 2018. The Privateers won the first two games against the Green Wave to take the Cup. The two teams will meet three times this month to decide who takes home the trophy in 2019. Last year was the first time
HOW SWEET IT IS
The Privateers went 3-0 in the Allstate Sugar Bowl Baseball Classic beating Chicago State, Rutgers, and Butler. In two seasons of hosting the event, the Privateers are 5-1 with their only loss coming against Iowa last year.
NO BLANKS
It's been 97 games since the Privateers were last shut out (May 13, 2017 against Nicholls). That is currently tied for the third longest streak without getting shut out in program history. The top five streaks (with start and end dates) are as follows:

ON THIS DATE
New Orleans and Tulane met on April 2, 1971 for their first ever meetings when they played a doubleheader. The Privateers won the first game 3-1 and Tulane took the second game 9-4.
ROLL CALL
The Privateers' 2019 roster has 23 newcomers. The two positions that saw the most turnover are the outfield (one returner) and the rotation. New Orleans also has more freshmen (11) than seniors (8) on their roster.
PRIVATEERS IN THE PROS
Bryan Warzek and
Kyle Arjona became the latest former Privateers to play professionally. The two join Shawn Semple who was drafted in 2017 and is currently in the Yankees' system. Warzek was drafted by the Dodgers in the sixth round in 2018 while Arjona signed a contract with the Phillies in late July.
ABOUT TULANE
- The Green Wave played their first conference series last weekend and won two of three from Cincinnati. The series opened with Tulane plating 19 runs. 16 of those came in the first four innings and Tulane pounded seven extra base hits. The Green Wave have played 20 of their 28 games at home to date.
- Kody Hoese ranks highly in the nation in several categories. His 12 home runs are fifth most in the country. Hoese is also 13th in the country in slugging percentage at .765. Hoese has scored 31 runs, which ranks 33rd in the nation heading into the week. Hoese had six RBI against Cincinnati.
- Pitching coach, Daniel Latham is back at his alma mater after a successful run in the same capacity at Southeastern. As a player, Latham still holds the all-time Tulane saves record. Last year in Hammond, Latham's staff ranked 38th in the country in ERA and sixth in strikeout-to-walk ratio. At this point of the season, Tulane's ERA is nearly a run lower than last year (5.42 to 4.47).
- Josh Bates has pitched 13.1 innings this season and opponents have rarely squared him up. Bates has allowed just four hits, translating to a .100 opponent batting average. As a freshman, Bates appeared in 16 games with 10 starts. He recorded 34 strikeouts in 46.1 innings.
- Tulane's offense has posted eight games of at least 10 runs this year and is 8-0 in those contests. Their highest run total this season was 22 against Lamar. The Green Wave lead the American Athletic Conference in runs, batting average, doubles, triples, home runs, walks, and stolen bases.
- Travis Jewett is in his third season with the Green Wave as head coach. He spent nearly two decades as an assistant coach prior to coming to New Orleans. Jewett was at Gonzaga, Vanderbilt, Arizona State, Washington, and Washington State. Jewett became just the fifth head coach at Tulane since 1967. He has a list of accomplishments that included the first NCAA Regional appearance in nearly 20 years at Washington State, coaching a host of Major Leaguers including two-time Cy Young Award winner, Tim Lincecum, and seeing 25 players drafted during his time at Vanderbilt.
- Tulane is 83-62 all-time against New Orleans. The Privateers and Green Wave played a doubleheader for their first ever meetings on this date which ended in a split.
- The Green Wave have rarely been caught stealing this year. Of their 25 stolen base attempts as a team, 23 have been successful. Jonathon Artigues is the individual leader in steals with six. Artigues and Sal Gozzo have been the only Green Wave players caught on the base paths this season.
