NEW ORLEANS – Fresh off a win to start the week, the New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team (10-9, 3-5) looks to continue their momentum when the host the Lamar Cardinals (7-12, 4-5) on Friday at the University Tennis Center.
The Privateers came in on the outside of the Southland Tournament picture by a half game but they began a crucial home week with a 5-2 win over Nicholls. After trailing 2-0 at the outset, New Orleans ran the table in the remaining five matches.
The win put New Orleans in a tie for eighth. The Privateers are also on the doorstep of possibly moving up even further in the standings. They come into Friday one game behind sixth place McNeese.

Ank Vullings picked up their 11
th doubles win of the season on Wednesday. Vullings then went on to secure her ninth singles win of the season after winning in straight sets while dropping just five games against Lingfeng Gu.
The two sides have been very evenly matched in recent history. In the last 11 meetings, Lamar has a 6-5 edge over New Orleans. Last year, the Privateers defeated the Cardinals 5-2. Both teams met in the postseason twice when they were both members of the Sun Belt.
Lamar will finish their regular season on Sunday with the South Louisiana swing. The Cardinals will face Nicholls on Sunday. Lamar dominated their last match, a 7-0 win over UIW on Apr. 7. Collectively, Lamar lost one set in singles.
Sanja Jolic has been tough to beat in conference play. Jolic has a 13-6 overall record and an 8-1 mark against Southland foes. Bianca Vitale has a 12-6 overall record in singles. Jasmin Buchta and Amelie Vossgatter are 6-2 at flight one in doubles against Southland competition.
