Baseball Looks for Season Sweep Against Tulane

NEW ORLEANS – With the Pelican Cup already secured, the New Orleans Privateers baseball team (21-23) will look for the season sweep against the Tulane Green Wave on Tuesday at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
 
New athletic director, Tim Duncan will join Manny Pepis on the broadcast during the third inning. Mr. Duncan will also have his introductory press conference Tuesday afternoon at the Homer Hitt Alumni Center ballroom at 1 p.m.
 
PROBABLE STARTERS
Cortlynn Ramirez (0-2, 6.41) will get his fourth consecutive midweek starting call. Of his last seven appearances, five have come at home. Krishna Raj (3-1, 5.31) will get the start for the Green Wave. 
 
LAST TIME THEY MET
New Orleans got an eight-run first inning on just two hits. The Green Wave rallied back to tie it at 9-9 in the fifth, but the Privateers surged ahead again with a four-run fifth. New Orleans wound up winning 15-10. Collin Morrill was 2-for-4 with a grand slam and three runs scored. The Privateers drew 13 walks against Tulane pitching.
 
QUICK HITS
- Mathew Oset picked up his team leading sixth win of the season on 4/27. Oset retired nine straight batters after giving up three runs while the Privateers rallied for a 10-inning triumph.
 
- Wade Raburn is on an active seven game hitting streak entering this week. The junior outfielder has improved his batting average by 32 points in that stretch.
 
- The Pelican Cup was already clinched by the Privateers with their 15-10 win over Tulane on Apr. 16 at Maestri Field. New Orleans has played Tulane at least three times in 35 seasons. Only once have the Privateers swept a season series of at least three contests against the Green Wave (1990).
 
- The Privateers are 10-2 this season when they collect more hits than an opponent.
 
- The Privateers are leading the Southland Conference in walks coming into the weekend. On the year, New Orleans has drawn 202 free passes. Privateer hitters walked 15 times in the Lamar series. Salo Iza leads the Southland in walks drawn with 31.
 
ABOUT TULANE
- Tulane is coming off a tough series against nationally ranked East Carolina. The Green Wave lost the first two games of the series but came back to win a 9-8 decision on Sunday. Hudson Haskin had a monster day going 5-for-5 with two doubles, a homer, and three RBI. His homer in the seventh turned out to be the game winning hit for the Green Wave.
 
- Kody Hoese co-leads the nation in homers along with JJ Bleady of Vanderbilt. Hoese is also third in the country in runs scored, sixth in batting average, 20th in doubles, and 21st in RBI. Hoese has more home runs (21) than strikeouts (19) in 180 at-bats this season. He is also 4-for-4 in stolen base attempts.
 
- Connor Pellerin has a .162 opponent batting average this season. Pellerin has surrendered just 15 hits in 26.2 innings this year and has 37 strikeouts. Of his 15 hits allowed, four have gone for extra bases. Josh Bates has an opponent batting average of .100 (5 hits allowed in 16.2 innings).
 
- The Green Wave rank highly in several offensive categories this season. After the weekend, Tulane is 13th in team batting average, sixth in runs scored, second in doubles, and fourth in home runs.
 
- Six regular starters for Tulane are hitting over .300 this year. Aside from Hoese, six other Green Wave players have at least six home runs.
