Baseball: Martin Earns Collegiate Baseball All-American Honors

TUCSON, Ariz. – After a stellar season that saw several records broken, Reeves Martin continued to add on to his accolades. The Privateers' junior closer was named Third Team All-American by Collegiate Baseball on Thursday.

Martin dominated on the mound, pitching to a 4-0 record and a 1.03 ERA. He struck out 55 batters in 35 innings and only issued nine walks. Opponents hit a slight .150 off Reeves during the Privateers' 2019 campaign, which finished with a 29-27 record.

The record book now sees Martin on it in several categories. During the '19 season, he broke the single season and all-time saves record. In three years, Martin has racked up 26 saves. This season he was a perfect 14-for-14 in save opportunities.

His 14 saves also have ranked in the top ten in the nation. Reeves currently sits in sixth in the country in saves. The national leader is Garrett Acton (Illinois) with 19.

Martin becomes the first Privateer baseball student-athlete to earn All-American honors since 2008 when Bryan Cryer earned ABCA and Louisville Slugger All-American honors that season. Martin also becomes only the second Privateer all-time to earn All-American recognition from Collegiate Baseball joining Doug Angeli (1993).

In his 29 appearances, Martin allowed only five extra base hits all season. His first and last homer of the year given up was against Michigan State on Feb. 17. For the year in his 35 innings of work, Martin allowed just 18 hits.

For his career, Martin has appeared in 88 games, which broke the program record (previously at 84). That was co-held by Justin Garcia and Ryan O'Shea who both last pitched for the Privateers in 2008. The single season and career save records that Martin broke were both previously held by O'Shea.
