Reeves Martin Selected as NCBWA First Team All-American

Martin earns All-American status from second publication

MORGANTOWN, W. VaReeves Martin was named a First Team All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association on Wednesday. The result was announced after two rounds of voting by the NCBWA.

Martin is one of five relief pitchers to appear on the First Team and one of two Southland Conference members to earn All-American recognition. The junior closer also won Third Team recognition from Collegiate Baseball.

A banner year and a program record breaking campaign garnered national attention for the Tampa, Fla. native who was 14-for-14 in save opportunities. He did not give up a run in 26 of his 29 appearances during the 2019 campaign.

Martin becomes the first Privateer to earn All-American status by multiple publications since Bryan Cryer (2008) won recognition from the American Baseball Coaches Association and Louisville Slugger. Martin is the first NCBWA All-American in program history since 2006 (Michael Epping).

A 21st round pick of the Seattle Mariners in the June draft, Martin is the fourth Privateer to currently be in the professional ranks. He wound up with 26 saves in his UNO career, smashing the previous program mark of 18 career saves.

On top of being recognized twice as an All-American, Martin has also won Southland Relief Pitcher of the Year honors, earned All-Southland First Team status, and on Tuesday was named Southland First Team All-Academic.

Luis Trevnio of Abilene Christian is the lone other Southland member on the NCBWA All-American list after earning Third Team at catcher. The other relievers who joined Martin on the First Team were Garrett Acton (Illinois), Holden Powell (UCLA), Jacob Wallace (UConn), and Kyle Hill (Baylor).
