Baseball Top-50 List Week in Review: Week 3

NEW ORLEANS
- The third week of the New Orleans Privateers Baseball Top 50 saw a prestigious group of third basemen and the beginning of the reveal of the outfielders. Five third basemen made the list and the first three outfielders were named as well.
 
THIRD BASEMEN
The third basemen unveiled were John Ballon, T.J. Baxter, Kevin McGann, Jim Opie, and Scott Raziano. Below are highlights on each:
 
Ballon-Two-time All-American, All-Region, and All-Conference selection. .621 career slugging percentage ranks 4th in program history.
 
Baxter-two-time All-Sun Belt selection. 2nd in program history in career runs scored with 205. In 2008, had 14 doubles, 11 homers, & 19 steals.
 
McGann- Holds the single season batting average record after hitting a blistering .417 in 1980. Ranks in the top 5 in batting average, doubles, triples, and total bases.
 
Opie-18 doubles, 13 homers, & 16 steals in 1982. Racked up 121 total bases in 65 games & led all infielders in assists with 168.
 
Raziano-Hit .406 in his junior season (1983). He is 9th in program history in career batting average and 5th in slugging percentage.
 
OUTFIELDERS
The outfield reveal began on Thursday and will continue through all of next week. The first three announced were: Darrell Nicholas, Stuart Weidie, and Ted Wood.
 
Nicholas-most career stolen bases in program history with 96. Hit .332 as a senior in 1994.
 
Weidie-3rd in career walks and runs. Also top 10 in hits, doubles, and home runs.
 
Wood-Highest career batting average in program history at .380. 250 career hits in three seasons. Made Major League debut in 1991 with the Giants.
 
The list will continue to be announced every Tuesday and Thursday leading up to the season opener against Grambling on Friday, Feb. 14.
