BATON ROUGE, La. –
Eric Orze's stellar performance on the mound netted him the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Pitcher of the Week. The announcement was made on Monday afternoon.
Orze's day started early as he sat down the first seven batters. That included striking out the side in the second inning. Only two runners got into scoring position over the first five innings.
He wound up with 12 strikeouts over seven innings pitched as the Privateers defeated the Colonels 5-2 on Saturday. New Orleans went on to win the series with a 9-1 victory on Sunday. The strikeout total was the highest by a Privateer this season.
Of Orze's 96 pitches, 66 went for strikes. Entering the week, Orze has won all three of his starts against Nicholls, UConn, and Arkansas State.
He has 29 strikeouts to just five walks over 19.2 innings of work in four total appearances as he's helped the Privateer pitching staff record the second lowest ERA in the Southland through the first month of the season. The strikeout total currently ranks 11
th among all Southland pitchers.
The Privateers will be back in action on Tuesday against Southern. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. This weekend, New Orleans will host a three-game series against Northwestern State.
