NEW ORLEANS –
Eric Orze has officially signed with the New York Mets after being selected in the fifth round of the abbreviated 2020 MLB Draft for $20,000. Orze became the 91
st Privateer in history to hear his name called on Draft Day.
A miraculous story of strength and resilience, Orze defeated cancer and returned to the mound as a pivotal member of the Privateers' pitching staff. Though the season was shortened, Orze made a lasting impression after he won all three of his starts.

Orze picked up victories against Arkansas State, UConn, and Nicholls. In the final start in a Privateer uniform, Orze struck out 12 batters which netted him Louisiana Sports Writers Association Pitcher of the Week honors.
The Mets made Orze their second Privateer selected in the Draft alongside Mark McGonigle (2008). Orze also becomes the fifth Privateer to make it to the professional ranks since 2017 along with Shawn Semple, Bryan Warzek,
Reeves Martin, and Kyle Arjona.
In 2020, Orze finished with a 3-0 mark and a 2.75 ERA. He helped lead a pitching staff that was second in the Southland Conference in ERA. Orze also racked up 29 strikeouts in 19.2 innings.
