Track and Field Sets Bar With Successful Opener at LSU Purple Tiger

BATON ROUGE – The New Orleans Privateers took first place in six different events on Friday at their indoor season opener, the LSU Purple Tiger Invitational hosted at Carl Maddox Fieldhouse. The Privateers also had 15 podium finishes during a highly successful spring opener.

PRIVATEERS GO 1-2 IN THE 60
Julian Forde set a new best as a Privateer when he ran a 6.70 to take first place in the 60-meter. He went over a tenth faster than his qualifying time of 6.82 in the preliminaries. Ismael Kone finished a shade behind with a 6.71.

FRAKER FINISHES TOP THREE TWICE
Addison Fraker won the women's shot put and finished second in the women's weight throw. Fraker set a mark of 11.88 meters, which was her best mark in an indoor event since the LSU Twilight in February 2019. Fraker also posted a mark of 14.55 meters to take second in the weight throw.

NOTABLES
Freshman, Esther Nwanze ran a 59.34 to take first place in the women's 400-meter in her debut collegiate meet. The Privateers made it a clean sweep in that department as Coy Sauceman won the men's 400-meter with a time of 50.70.

Allie Louis crushed her previous best in the 600-meter while also winning first place. The senior posted a 1:40.95, an almost two-second improvement over her last run at this distance in 2020. Anna Martin also took the top spot in the women's 3000-meter with a time of 10:49.14, just four tenths of a second off her previous best.

Christopher Murphy set the bar in his first jump when he registered a mark of 6.86 meters on his first attempt. Nobody in the field could top that mark for the remainder of the competition.

Karena Grigenas went over 14 meters in the weight throw for the first time as a Privateer to take third place in the event.
