FINAL RESULTS (GOLFSTAT) | FINAL RESULTS | DAY ONE RECAP

NEW ORLEANS – Making his first career start sophomore Mason Roberts finished the Pinetree Intercollegiate tied for 8th place after shooting a 220 after 54-holes at the Pinetree Country Club on Tuesday afternoon.

Rounds of 73, 71 and 76 has the Lubbock, Texas native as high as fourth place early during round three before Mason grabbed the first top ten finish of his career. Roberts sank the first two eagles of his UNO career on hole seven during rounds one and two and finished with seven birdies.

Mason also tied Gustov Sjoberg of Mercer and Anders Larson of Tennessee Tech as the only golfers with a 3.00 average on par 3 holes in the field. His second round score of 71 was the only round of golf under par by a Privateer during the tournament.

Pepe De La Concepcion Quilez had rounds of 75, 77 and 79 to finish inside the top-30. The Valencia native led the Privateers with a team best seven birdies at the tournament. Kyle Bennett's first round score of 72 was the only other round at par or better for New Orleans, but the Zachary native struggled in rounds two and three finishing tied for 56th after shooting a 229.

Thomas Artigas finished in 61st after shooting a 250, and Grayson Gilbert finished tied for 62nd after shooting a 252.

As a team the Privateers finished in 11th place after shooting a 937 – their highest tournament score outside of a Southland Championship since the 2016 Samford Collegiate. Mercer won the team championship shooting a 2-over-par 866, and Bear junior Tobias Jonsson was the individual winner with a 6-under-par score of 210.

New Orleans plays its final tournament of the fall – the Bear Brawl – on Oct. 31 at Ridgewood Country Club in Waco, Texas. The tournament is unique in that is just a single day 36-hole event. It will be the first non-weather related two-round event since the Privateers played in the 2017 Tiger Classic in Baton Rouge.

HEAD COACH JEFF LORIO
(on Mason Roberts)
"I'm very pumped up for Mason. This was the best individual performance we have had all year and he did it against a really strong field. This should give him confidence and set him up nicely going forward."

(on the team)
"This is a very difficult event but there aren't many positives to take away. Pinetree played difficult - we just never could get any momentum and it snowballed in the wrong direction. We continued to hit the tee ball out of position and did not chip the ball well at all. It was a very frustrating performance."
