Privateers to Battle South Alabama at Maestri Field

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers will host a midweek contest against a scorching hot and familiar opponent when they face the South Alabama Jaguars. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Maestri Field.
 
PITCHING MATCHUP
The Jaguars will start LHP Taylor Lehrmann (0-0, 3.37 ERA) on Tuesday. The Privateers' starter is yet to be announced.
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
South Alabama leads the all-time series 98-61 against the Privateers. The Jaguars won the only meeting last year and have won three straight entering Tuesday.
 
NOTES
-After his tremendous start on Sunday, Collin Horton was named Southland Pitcher of the Week. He joins Pearce Howard who won Southland Hitter of the Week in the second week of the season. Horton had 16 strikeouts and had a no-hit bid broken up in the ninth inning with two outs.
-This is just the second midweek game this season for New Orleans. Their only other one came against LSU in Baton Rouge.
-Anthony Herron Jr. and Tyler Bischke provided the first two walk-off hits for the Privateers this season. Herron is hitting .300 with 14 RBI while Bischke has scored seven runs in 10 games.
-After Sunday's win, the Privateers are at 10 victories for the season. It's the second fastest head coach Blake Dean has reached 10 victories in a season as a head coach. In 2016, the Privateers won 10 of their first 12 games.
-Miguel Useche and Jorge Tejeda have combined to throw out seven runners trying to steal this season. Only Texas A&M-Corpus Christi has more runners thrown out as a team among Southland members this year.
-The Privateers turned six double plays on the weekend against Youngstown State. Their 16 double plays rank sixth in the country. New Mexico leads the nation in double plays with 21.
 
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
South Alabama (11-3) has been pitching lights out this season. Opponents are hitting just .187 against Jaguar pitching and their staff has a 2.61 ERA. Their opponents are averaging 3.6 runs per game.
 
Offensively, Miles Simington is hitting .490 in 51 at-bats. He has 17 RBI and 25 hits. Will Turner has been successful in six of seven stolen base attempts.
 
Jaguars head coach, Mark Calvi is in his 11th season at the helm. He is 14-4 all-time against the Privateers in his tenure.
