Privateers Look to Carry Momentum Into Midweek Game vs. Southern Miss

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers will play a Wednesday match-up against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. at Maestri Field.
 
The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday but was moved due to the threat of inclement weather during the evening hours.
 
PITCHING MATCH-UP
UNO-LHP Kyle Khachadourian vs. RHP-Blake Wehunt
 
NOTES
-Khachadourian will get his third consecutive midweek starting call. The Florida native has given up just one earned run in his last three appearances (8.1 innings).
-Amani Larry was named Southland Hitter of the Week on Monday. Larry hit .450 with nine RBI last week and became the third Privateer to win the weekly award.
-Pearce Howard tore the cover off the ball. In four games last week, Howard hit .667 (10-for-15) against South Alabama and Oklahoma.
-The series win against Oklahoma was the second for the Privateers over a Big 12 school. New Orleans had a 14-34 record against the Big 12 coming into the season but was 4-2 against Kansas and Oklahoma in 2022.
-This game comes right before the beginning of Southland play. The Privateers will host a three-game series against Northwestern State.
-Caleb Seroski threw six innings over three appearances last week. The closer for the Privateers allowed just one unearned run and has a 0.75 ERA on the year.
-The Privateers hold the top three in RBI in the Southland heading into the week. Larry, Howard and Anthony Herron Jr. occupy the top three slots in the conference and have a combined 61 RBI.
-New Orleans continues to be efficient in turning double plays. The Privateers turned five more against Oklahoma and are at 23 for the season, second most in the nation.
 
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
The Golden Eagles have played 13 of their first 20 games at home. Southern Miss is 2-5 in games outside of Hattiesburg this season.
 
Southern Miss will give the starting call to Blake Wehunt who has not pitched yet this season. Wehunt threw 8.1 innings for the Golden Eagles last season. The pitching staff as a whole has struck out 213 batters and they have the best strikeout-to-walk ratio in the country at 5.07.
