FRISCO, Texas –
Brandon Mitchell earned his second Southland Pitcher of the Week award in his career after throwing a complete game in one of three victories against the McNeese Cowboys over the weekend. The award was announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
Mitchell induced 13 ground ball outs and four of those were double plays. It was the first complete game of Mitchell's career and the first by a Privateer starter this season. The last was in March 2021 (
Chris Turpin).
It was the first win for Mitchell on the season who has thrown 21.2 innings in his last three starts. His first Southland Pitcher of the Week award was in his freshman season when he struck out 10 batters over eight innings in 2019 against Abilene Christian.
The Houston native has posted four quality starts in his last five outings on the mound. To date, he has a team-leading 40.0 innings pitched and a 3.83 ERA.
The Privateers have taken home four Conference Player of the Week awards.
Pearce Howard has won Hitter of the Week twice and
Collin Horton has earned Pitcher of the Week honors.
Ridge Rogers of UIW won Southland Hitter of the Week.
The Privateers will next go for the Pelican Cup when they face Tulane on Tuesday. A weekend series at Southeastern follows starting on Thursday in Hammond.
