Privateers Look to Secure Pelican Cup vs. Tulane

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers (19-10) look to clinch the 2022 Pelican Cup on Tuesday when they take on the Tulane Green Wave (22-10-1) at Maestri Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
 
The Privateers will look to secure the Cup for the third consecutive time that it has been contested since being reinstituted in 2018. The Pelican Cup was not contested in 2020 or 2021.
 
NOTES
-The Privateers offense has been blazing hot of late. New Orleans has scored 90 runs in the last eight games and has gone for double digit runs in six of those contests.
-New Orleans secured their first ever three-game series sweep against McNeese. The Privateers were previously 3-21 against the Cowboys since entering the Southland in 2014.
-Pearce Howard has climbed to 22nd in the nation in RBI with 40 this season after adding seven to that total against McNeese. Howard also moved into a tie for 4th in program history in RBI with Leroy Weimer.
-The Privateers continue to turn double plays at will. 35 twin killings have put the Privateers 2nd in the nation entering the week only trailing New Mexico (41).
-Against Tulane, the Privateers have been golden in the Blake Dean era. New Orleans is 7-0 at Maestri Field against the Green Wave and they have scored 67 runs in those victories.
-Amani Larry is in the top two in the Southland in runs scored, hits and batting average. Larry ranks 23rd in the nation in runs with 40. Kasten Furr is also in the top 50 (46th) in runs scored with 37.
 
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
Carter Robinson will get his second start against the Privateers. Robinson allowed three runs on five hits in two innings against the Privateers on Mar. 29.
 
The Green Wave had won six consecutive games after their first meeting with the Privateers. That was until the series finale which they lost to South Florida on Sunday. Prior to that, the Green Wave swept Memphis, beat Southern in a midweek game and took the first two from the Bulls of USF.
