Privateers Head to Thibodaux for Pivotal Conference Series at Nicholls

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers (22-16, 8-7 SLC) will be tested in another pivotal conference series when they head to Thibodaux to face the Nicholls Colonels (22-15, 9-6 SLC). First pitch for the series opener is on Friday at 6 p.m.

NOTES
-Pearce Howard is now one hit away from tying the all-time program hits record set by Kevin McGann. On Tuesday, Howard doubled in his first at-bat.
-The win against LSU on Tuesday was the third victory vs. the Tigers since Blake Dean became head coach in 2016. It was the largest margin of victory against LSU on the diamond since 1986.
-New Orleans has 93 RBI with two outs this year. Four Privateers have at least 12 runs batted in with two outs this season. Howard (19), Anthony Herron Jr. (15), Amani Larry (15) and Travis Gober (12) lead the team in two-out RBI.
-The last series before the COVID-19 pandemic ended the 2020 season was against Nicholls. The Privateers took two-of-three at Maestri Field. New Orleans leads the all-time series 91-67 against the Colonels. Since joining the Southland, New Orleans is 7-8 against Nicholls.
-The Privateers turned their 44th double play of the season on Tuesday. They continue to hold at second in the nation behind New Mexico (48) in double plays turned.
 
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
Nicholls will feature the co-leader in wins who is scheduled to go on Saturday when Tyler Theriot starts. Theriot is 6-2 with a 2.15 ERA, which leads the Southland heading into the weekend.
 
The Colonels pitching staff has allowed the fewest walks of anyone in the Southland this year at 110. The next closest is UIW with 124 free passes issued.
 
Mike Silva is in his first season with the Colonels who sit in a tie for first place in the league standings with McNeese heading into the weekend.
 
22 different Colonels have a plate appearance this season. The leading hitter is Alec Paz who comes in with a .307 batting average. He and Edgar Alvarez have combined for 15 home runs and 63 RBI this year.
