Privateers Host McNeese in Third Weekend of Conference Play

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers (16-10, 3-3) are back home for week three of the conference schedule when they host the McNeese Cowboys (16-13, 3-3) in a series starting on Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Maestri Field.
 
All games this weekend will be broadcast on ESPN+ and the Friday game will be carried on radio at NASH Icon 106.1 FM.
 
PITCHING MATCH-UPS
FRIDAY-LHP Tyler LeBlanc (UNO) vs. RHP-Grant Rogers (MCN)
SATURDAY-LHP Brandon Mitchell (UNO) vs. TBA

NOTES
-In the last five games, the Privateers have put up 59 runs. They've scored double digit runs four times in that stretch and they lead the Southland in runs scored with 197 heading into the weekend.
-Tyler LeBlanc and Jack Williams are two of four pitchers in the conference who are at four wins, which leads the league. LeBlanc picked up his fourth win last weekend in the series opener against HBU.
-Jacob Mead has been on fire to start the season. The junior from Round Rock has worked 7.2 scoreless innings to start the year. He pitched the last two innings of the series finale at HBU.
-Issac Williams hit his first two home runs of his career. His second homer of the weekend at HBU erased a deficit and tied the game against HBU at 9-9. Last week, Williams was 4-for-10 at the plate.
-New Orleans is looking to flip the script against McNeese. The Cowboys are 21-3 against the Privateers since New Orleans joined the conference in 2014.
-The Privateers are fourth in the nation in double plays turned. They turned three against HBU, moving their season total to 28 which also leads the Southland Conference.
 
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
The Cowboys are coming off a midweek win against Prairie View by a score of 7-2. The Cowboys scored four runs in the first inning and never looked back from there. Brett Payne picked up the win.
 
McNeese is second in the league in batting average at .282 and leads the league in ERA at a 3.99. The Cowboys pitching staff is also first in the Southland in strikeouts at 275. Brad Burckel is third in the league in batting average (.363) and is co-leading the Southland in hits (41).
