Privateers Enter Final Weekend of Wild Southland Slate at Northwestern State

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers will begin a highly anticipated final weekend of the regular season when they take on the Northwestern State Demons starting Thursday. First pitch for the series opener is at 6:30 p.m. in Natchitoches.

THURSDAY: Tyler LeBlanc (UNO) vs. Cal Carver (NSU)
FRIDAY: Beau Blanchard (UNO) vs. Johnathan Harmon (NSU)
SATURDAY: Kyle Khachadourian (UNO) vs. TBA
 
WILD CHASE
The Privateers and Demons are two of six teams within a game of each other in the standings. McNeese and Southeastern co-lead the conference at 12-9 while four teams are right behind at 11-10. The top two seeds will earn the right to co-host the conference tournament starting next weekend.
 
NOTES
-Kasten Furr ran his hitting streak to 13 games after the weekend against UIW. Furr is hitting .400 in that span with 17 runs and nine RBI.
-Speaking of Furr, he and Amani Larry have crossed the plate with great frequency this year. The 1-2 punch in the lineup both rank inside the top 50 in the nation in runs scored entering the week with 56 and 54 runs respectively.
-New Orleans is looking to bounce back in road games. Since their series win at HBU to start April, the Privateers are just 1-6 away from Maestri Field and have been outscored 54-31 in those contests.
-Six Privateers are hitting .300 or better in conference play. As a team, New Orleans has hit .309 against Southland opponents this season.
-All seven of Issac Williams' homers have come against conference opponents. He has two homers in a game twice this season and is hitting .347 with a .694 slugging percentage against conference foes.
 
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
The Demons have been solid at home this year, boasting a 17-8 mark at Brown-Stroud Field. In conference, Northwestern State is 6-3 at home.
 
Northwestern State picked up a midweek win as they defeated ULM 10-5 on Tuesday. Larson Fontenot homered and drove in five runs in the victory.
 
The Demons took two of three from the Privateers at Maestri Field. After New Orleans won the series opener, Northwestern State scored a win in a 2-1 pitcher's duel. They blew open a close game in the sixth and won 16-10 in the series finale.
