DeArica Pryor Selected to Preseason Southland First Team

LAKE CHARLES, La.DeArica Pryor earned a spot on the Southland Conference First Team in the preseason as the all-conference teams were announced at Southland Media Day on Tuesday morning.

Pryor made the Second Team in the postseason last year after putting forth her biggest statistical year. The Urbandale, Iowa native poured in 440 total points over 27 games last season and led the Southland both in scoring and steals.

Pryor has also earned accolades for her defense. She is a two-time selection of the All-Defensive Team including last year where she posted 2.9 steals per contest. In two career seasons, Pryor has 131 total steals.

Last year, Pryor ranked 35th in total steals in the nation and 15th in steals per game. Her 77 steals were the seventh-highest total in a single season in program history. She is 42 steals away from entering the career top ten in program history.

In 27 games played, Pryor reached double figures in 22 of them. She also posted a career-high 35 points in the Privateers' Southland Conference Tournament first round game against McNeese.

The senior becomes the first Preseason First Team member in the program's history since Randi Brown earned that distinction in 2017.

Seven of the ten member schools had a representative on the Southland Conference Preseason Team. Southeastern, Lamar and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi each had two selections.

Southeastern garnered 15 of the 20 first place votes in the preseason poll. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (3) and Lamar (2) had the remainder of the first place votes. The Privateers were picked to finish ninth.
