NEW ORLEANS – The University of New Orleans Cross Country programs will see action for the first time in over a month when they travel to Harry Pritchett Running Park in Tuscaloosa, Ala. for the Crimson Classic on Friday morning.
The New Orleans women's only prior appearance at the Crimson Classic was fifth-place finish (out of 16 teams) in October of 2000. Freshman sensation Michaela Mannova set a then school record with a time of 17:06.9 (currently third all-time) in the 5K and four Privateer women finished inside the top-20 that morning. Friday will mark the first appearance of the UNO men's program at the Crimson Classic.
The men are currently ranked No. 11 in the United States Track and Field / Cross Country Coaches Association's South Central Region, while the women check in at No. 13.
The New Orleans men have been ranked in 20 straight USTFCCCA regional polls dating back to February of 2020, while the women have been ranked in 15 straight dating back to October of 2021.
Both teams last raced on Sept. 15 at the Southern Showcase in Huntsville, Ala. and both finished in 10
th place. Seven Privateer women and five Privateer men placed inside the top-100 with both races featuring over 300 competitors.
Matthew Hansen led the way for the men finishing his 8K in 30
th place with a time of 24:36.6, while
Rebecca DeKay paced the women finishing her 5K in 44
th place with a time of 17:49.8.
