FINAL RESULTS (GOLFSTAT) | FINAL RESULTS | DAY ONE RECAP
NEW ORLEANS – Sophomore
Kyle Bennett finished just short of emulating former Privateer Adam Cornelson's 2009 victory at the Louisiana Classics after he finished four strokes behind Little Rock's Anton Alberts and tied for second place on Tuesday afternoon.
Bennett finished with a score of 216 after rounds of 71, 72 and 73. He birdied the first and seventh holes to keep him tied for first place after the front nine. Bogeys on 10, 13 and 14 eventually pushed him into a tie for second place with LSU's Drew Doyle.
Bennett sank 12 birdies over three rounds – the most among the field and finished tied for best in the field on par-5 holes with All-American and reigning U.S Amateur Champion Sam Bennett out of Texas A&M. Both finished with an average of 4.33 and 6-under-par on par-5's.
New Orleans climbed as high as seventh place during the final 18 holes but eventually finished in 10
th place after rounds of 295, 313, and 300 and a score of 908. The Privateers third round score of 300 was a 13-stroke improvement on their second round score.
Once again, the Privateers were among the field's leaders in birdies with 36 overall – the fourth most out of all teams. In addition to Bennett's 12,
Ryan Fulton had six, while
Grayson Gilbert and
Canon Clark each sank five.
New Orleans finished with victories over #62 SMU, #73 New Mexico State, and just a single stroke shy of the B1G's Michigan.
Kyle Bennett finished five strokes ahead of Texas A&M's Sam Bennett who is widely considered as one of the best amateur golfers in the country.
No. 15 Texas A&M won the team title with a score of 866, while Alberts won the individual championship with a score of 212.
The Privateers return to the course in two weeks on March 27-28 when they travel to Kerrville, Texas for The Big Texan hosted by UTRGV. Live scoring will be available on

HEAD COACH JEFF LORIO
"Once again, we struggled getting into the house today, that said this was without question a successful week for this program. We picked up a few quality wins including one over a top 60 team in the country. This will give the guys a tremendous amount of confidence for the remainder of the spring."
(on Kyle Bennett)
"Kyle proved that he has the game to compete at a very high level against some of best players in the college game. His game has matured in his short time on the Lakefront and if he continues on this trajectory, the sky is the limit."
