New Orleans is coming off a loss to the LSU Tigers on Tuesday. LSU broke open a close game as the Tigers won 16-0. The Privateers held the powerful LSU bats scoreless until the fifth inning.

Tristan Moore has a hit in five straight games entering the weekend. The junior outfielder has collected 14 hits in his last seven games. Moore's .442 batting average ranks 48th in the country.

Brandon Mitchell has won three consecutive starts after earning a victory on Saturday in a run rule game against Mississippi Valley State. The last time Mitchell won three consecutive starts was  in 2021 when he earned wins against UIW, Southeastern and McNeese.

The series starts on St. Patrick's Day. New Orleans is 23-16 all-time on St. Patrick's Day but have lost five of their last seven on March 17.

New Orleans is 1-11 all-time against the Longhorns but the one was the last meeting. The Privateers won the series finale in Texas 4-1 back in April 2018.

The Privateer offense has been a collective unit with five players recording at least five multi-hit games this year: Moore, Kasten Furr, Tyler Bischke, Miguel Useche and Issac Williams.

New Orleans' road schedule did not do many favors early. This weekend marks the fourth 2022 NCAA Regional team the Privateers have faced on the road and the second Regional host. New Orleans has faced Southern Miss, LSU and Kennesaw State on the road as well.

Texas (11-7) swept a two-game midweek series against North Dakota State. The Longhorns outscored the Bison 14-6.

Peyton Powell is hitting .400 through 45 at-bats. Eric Kennedy and Porter Brown co-lead the team in home runs with four.
