NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers return home for the weekend as their non-conference slate continues against the Brown Bears. The series begins on Friday with a first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Maestri Field.

The Privateers took their first step toward taking back the Pelican Cup with a 6-5 win on Wednesday against Tulane. New Orleans outhit the Green Wave 10-5 on the night and
Miguel Useche's RBI single in the ninth put the Privateers ahead for good.
Matthew Maldonado earned the save, his first in a Privateer uniform.
New Orleans (4-4) has had good success in their limited track record against the Ivy League. The Privateers are 9-3 all-time against Ivy League schools and 2-0 against Brown. Both meetings against the Bears were in 2010.
Six players have either five or six RBI entering the weekend:
Tyler Bischke,
Jorge Tejeda,
Jeissy De la Cruz and
Mitchell Sanford all have six RBI through eight games.
Miguel Useche and
Issac Williams trail right behind with five each.
Anthony Herron Jr. has seen an average of 4.25 pitches per plate appearance which is second on the team among all starters (
Mitchell Sanford-4.5). Herron has drawn eight walks through eight games, which ranks fifth in the Southland entering the weekend.
The Privateers have continued their first inning success from last season into the first eight games this year. New Orleans has outscored opponents 12-2 in the opening frame this season.
Brown (0-4) was swept in their opening series at Georgia State last weekend. The Bears were outscored 37-13 in the series.
Grant Achilles is in his ninth season at the helm of the program which was picked to finish sixth in the eight-team Ivy League.
Brown made history as Olivia Pichardo became the first woman to make an NCAA Division I baseball roster. Pichardo has yet to appear in a game this season.
Derian Morphew had the biggest opening weekend at the plate for the Bears. He went 7-for-16 with three doubles against Georgia State.
