Â
New Orleans (13-11) lost two-of-three in their opening Southland series against Lamar. The Privateers' win came on Saturday which also netted Southland Pitcher of the Week honors for
Brandon Mitchell. The Houston native threw the second complete game of his career and shut out the Cardinals after the first inning.
Â
New Orleans won the first meeting 6-5 against Tulane to begin the month of March.
Miguel Useche delivered the game-winning hit with an RBI single in the top of the ninth.
Matthew Maldonado came on for the save, his first of the season.
Â
Usey will start a collegiate game for the first time after appearing in seven games out of the pen. Usey last pitched on Mar. 18 against Texas. The Lafitte native has three outings of two innings or longer this season.
Â
Dylan Mach had a huge weekend getting the start in all three games at Lamar. Mach went 7-for-12 against statistically the best pitching staff in the Southland.
Â
The Privateers have 11 home runs this season in the first pitch of the count after two of those came last week from
Tyler Bischke (Southern Miss) and
Issac Williams (Lamar).
Â
Kasten Furr and Bischke have been stout defensively this season. The starting shortstop and second baseman combined for just two errors in 193 chances. Furr has been in on 12 of the team's 15 double plays while Bischke has been a part of 14 twin killings.
Â
Tulane (6-18) was swept in a long road trip to the island. The Green Wave went 0-3 against Hawaii and were limited to three runs scored all weekend.
Â
Brennan Lambert, Brady Hebert and Brady Marget co-lead the team with seven multi-hit games each. Jackson Linn heads up the squad in home runs with five this season and one of those came in the first meeting against New Orleans.
