Privateers Host Northwestern State in Second Week of Southland Play

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers baseball team will return to Maestri Field where they will face the Northwestern State Demons this weekend. First pitch for the series opener is at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.

STARTERS
FRIDAY: UNO: LHP-Tyler LeBlanc vs. NWST: LHP-Cal Carver
SATURDAY: UNO: LHP-Brandon Mitchell vs. NWST: RHP-Alex Makarewich
SUNDAY: UNO: TBA vs. NWST: RHP-Drayton Brown

The Privateers are coming off a strong victory against Tulane where they defeated the Green Wave 16-4 to take the Pelican Cup back to the Lakefront. The margin of victory was the largest by New Orleans against Tulane since 2007.

The New Orleans pitching staff racked up 15 strikeouts, the most in a single game this season. That surpassed the 12 they accrued in two games of their series sweep against Brown. Five different pitchers have multiple strikeouts in their lone inning of work.

Tristan Moore hit his second home run in the first inning and his team-leading sixth overall against Tulane on Wednesday. Moore has a hit in each of his last five games and has a .351 batting average which also tops on the squad.

Tyler LeBlanc has eaten up innings overall this season. Over his last five starts, LeBlanc has gone five innings or longer four times and six or longer in three of those starts. He threw seven innings while allowing just one run at Lamar.

Of all starters, Anthony Herron Jr. has seen the fewest strikes. Herron has faced 382 pitches and 56 percent of those have been strikes this season.

New Orleans and Northwestern State have gone back-and-forth in Coach Blake Dean's tenure. The Privateers are 9-8 against the Demons since 2016.

Northwestern State will open conference play after they went 0-4 last weekend in a long trip to Oregon. The Demons pitching staff has allowed the fewest walks in the Southland this season at 72.

Michael Dattalo leads the Southland in batting average (.393) and on-base percentage (.486). Daunte Stuart has a .995 OPS heading into the weekend.
