NEW ORLEANS – With the Pelican Cup already secured, the New Orleans Privateers baseball team will go for a season sweep on Tuesday against the Tulane Green Wave at Maestri Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
The Pelican Cup trophy will be presented to the Privateers prior to the game.
New Orleans is coming off a difficult end to a long weekend road trip in Corpus Christi. After winning the series opener, the Privateers lost the last two games by two runs each. New Orleans is now 6-6 after 12 conference games.
Tristan Moore is at 11 home runs this season which is the most since 2017. He is the first Privateer to reach double digit homers in a season since Orynn Veillon had 15. Moore also leads the Southland in slugging percentage at .739.
Only twice have the Privateers swept a season series of at least three games against Tulane. The first occurrence was in 1990 and the most recent happened in 2019 when the Privateers exploded for 37 runs.
New Orleans pitchers collectively rank in the top 50 in fewest hits per nine innings allowed. Four relievers have opponent batting averages under .200:
Jacob Mead,
Caleb Menina,
Tod Gauthe and
Zeph Hoffpauir.
Mitchell Sanford is hitting .467 in 60 at-bats with runners on base this season. Sanford has 19 RBI in his last 12 games and he has 16 RBi with two outs this season, leading the team in that department.
Tulane (10-26, 4-5 AAC) lost two of three against Wichita State on the road last weekend. The Green Wave scored 22 runs, the second most in a weekend series this season but surrendered 24 runs to the Shockers.
Brady Marget is hitting an even .300 on the season to lead the team. He also has a team-best 10 doubles. Simon Baumgardt and Jackson Linn co-lead the squad in home runs with eight apiece.
